ABSTRACT

Probiotics are live microbial feed supplements that have been used to improve intestinal bacterial balance. Anecdotally, their use appeared to eliminate Salmonella from the gastro-intestinal tract when fed to iguanas, Iguana iguana. However, this study failed to demonstrate a similar effect in carpet pythons, Morelia spilota. Snakes continued to excrete Salmonella in their faeces despite being fed probiotic.
